David Chu

David currently serves as a co-leader for one of our Young Adults CGs.

1. What prompted you to become a CG Leader?
I saw that there was a need for a men's CG in our church, and I took the opportunity to do so.  I also wanted to help raise a community of biblical men and leaders for our church. The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few (Matthew 9:37).

2. If you could describe your CG in 3 words, what would they be?
Bible, Brotherhood, Bojangling

3. How have you been blessed during your time as a CG leader?
I am blessed to have a community to live life with, break bread with, as well as give and receive rebukes.  As our CG walks life together, we really get to know each other as a whole and that helps us to lead a more Christ-like life.

4. How long have you attended KCPC?
I have been with KCPC since 2005.

5. What areas have you served or are currently serving at KCPC?
It is my 5th year in youth ministry, and I am currently serving Joshua Generation (JG) our highschool ministry, but I have also served in All Stars, our middle school ministry.  I also do Yedam (예닮), where once a month I help out with good neighbors ministry, since I do have a heart for the special needs.  I have been doing special needs volunteering since I was in high school, and I really empathize with what the parents go through to raise a special needs child.  In terms of missions, I have done Urban Promise, going to Little Rock Arkansas back in 2019 with Pastor Daniel Kwon. Lastly,  I have done KCPC Judo back in 2019 along with my co-leader Eric.

6. When did you get saved and what were the circumstances that led you to Christ?
During the winter of 2016, Pastor Phil, my high school pastor, encouraged me to attend a youth retreat.  Upon going, I realized that I have been shown love from Jesus, even though I had a hard time seeing it. Since then, I have a heart of thankfulness and reverence to my Lord Jesus Christ.

7. What is your favorite Bible verse?
All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return (Ecclesiastes 3:20).

8. What are your spiritual gifts?
Exhortation: since I love talking to people and truly want to better the people in my life. Teaching: I find that it's fun to lead small groups for youth and especially raising the next generation.

9. What is your favorite restaurant?
Kohyang House in Chantilly. You should really try the gamja tang there.

10. What is your favorite dessert?
Strawberries. I don't have much of a sweet tooth.

11. What are your hobbies and interests?
Most people get surprised when I tell them that I like to bake and cook, since I've been told I bake tasty pies. I also like to lift weights, swim, fish, snowboard, do MMA/Judo, go to the shooting range, and rap.

12. Tell us something unique or funny about yourself.
As much as I like to say "spread Korean Nationalism in Japan" with my co-leader Eric, I have many funny stories to tell that will make you laugh.  I also have a very dark and ironic sense of humor, so proceed with caution since I have no limit to how dark my humor can get.

13. What was your favorite song in middle school?
“Won't back down” by Eminem

14. If you could time travel, would you rather go to the past or into the future? Why?
The past, just to see what happens if I tampered key elements of world history.  For example, seeing a future where Korea was never colonized by Japan, a world where the cold war turned into WW3, and see what would happen if the confederates won the Civil War.

15. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
North Korea, it's quite the unique place.

16. How can we pray for you?
To continue leading other brothers well into spiritual maturity as well as continuing to be a humble servant for the Lord.
