Gloria Kim
Gloria currently serves as a leader of one of our Young Adult CGs.
Hello KCPC EC. My name is Gloria, and I lead the Chantilly/South Riding Young Adults Community Group (CG). Our mission focus is still in the works, however we have come to a collective presumption that we all desire to be intentional with one another and grow deeper in our relationship with God so that we can ultimately pour out into other respective communities with whatever gifts that we have fostered. We meet at 7pm on Thursdays at my current residence in South Riding. Our CG has begun the past September so we are still fairly new and small, but we are growing in number every month! I recently asked Thomas Zablan and Joy Son to help co-lead our CG together, as they will be helping with admin and fellowship/events. Our CG’s name is WEAST. It began as a pun from SpongeBob because our CG is the furthest CG west geographically, but the name stuck and our members grew fond of it.
What prompted you to become a CG Leader?
I had moved to South Riding early last year and saw a need for community and space for the EC young adults that live in the north west part of NoVa. I had also been prompted jokingly (but half serious) by other leaders to step up and lead a small group. I guess they won, haha.
If you could describe your CG in 3 words, what would they be?
Intentional, youthful, and slow-burn (does that count as one word?)
How have you been blessed during your time as a CG leader?
I didn’t have many (if any) expectations at the beginning of our CG, but the Lord really blessed me with new members that were hungry to talk about God’s Word. I am lacking in many ways, but I’ve been so encouraged and inspired by our CG members for taking the initiative to share in our meetings and attend the hangouts! Our members have recently begun sharing testimonies at the end of our meetings so that we can learn more about each other. It’s been fascinating piecing together the thoughtful ideas and responses that are shared during discussion to the members’ stories and how God has brought them to this place or their current walk with Him. It’s not only been amazing listening to these stories of grace, but also great having a space for me to share my life and how the Lord has shaped me as well!
How long have you attended KCPC?
21 years! I’ve attended KCPC since 2003.
What areas have you served or are currently serving at KCPC?
I currently serve in A/V team as part of the EC Worship team alongside leading a Young Adult CG. I have previously served as a small group leader in each respective youth and college ministry (AS, JG, SJRN).
When did you get saved and what were the circumstances that led you to Christ?
I was ‘churched’ for all my life and grew up at KCPC, but it wasn’t until I was 18 years old that I met the Lord and began my walk with Him. I’ve always known about the brokenness in my life through familial circumstances, but it wasn’t until I learned that a Savior was the answer to save me from sin and no worldly person or idea could take me out of the brokenness but Jesus alone could. The more I learned about the Father’s love, the hungrier I became to know who Jesus was. The more I found myself accepted and loved on by my brothers and sisters in Christ, the more I understood that the Love of God is overflowing and the areas in our community are in desperate need to know Christ and His abounding love. The more I found myself rotting in sin, the more often I found myself at Jesus’s feet, learning over and over again how beautiful He is and how freely He forgave me of my sin. I was covered in grace and was called not to be my own, but rather called to belong to Him.
What is your favorite Bible verse(s)?
2 Corinthians 4:7-12
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. 11 For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12 So death is at work in us, but life in you.
What are your spiritual gifts?
I’m not too certain, but I think my spiritual gifts are somewhere around Hospitality and Exhortation. If anyone knows how to pinpoint them, please let me know. I would like to know.

What is your favorite dessert?

Tell us something unique or funny about yourself.
I have a tooth that is rotated 180 degrees on the left upper part of my teeth.. Every dentist I have visited has laughed at me and asked me why it is this way…
What was your favorite song in middle school?
Haru Haru by Big Bang
If you could time travel, would you rather go to the past or into the future? Why?
Past — history has already explained itself so going to the past would be easier to predict and invest in.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Mongolia. I always wanted to star-gaze in the Gorkhi-Terelj Park where there is no light pollution.
How can we pray for you?
Please pray for wisdom and patience as I’m preparing to enter a new chapter of my life (getting hitched). Also for our CG to continue growing in our desire to choose following Christ first before all other things of this world. Please pray for me, that I may not be a stumbling block but rather be a stepping stone so those who I serve may grow to be greater leaders and bless more folks.
